SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A portion of Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield was closed after a school bus took down a utility pole Thursday afternoon.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield's fire commissioner, said that around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, a van-sized school bus hit and sheared a pole near 1780 Roosevelt Ave.

Springfield Police added that some electrical wires are also down on the roadway.

Leger noted that the driver was the only person on-board the bus and was taken by AMR to an area hospital.

Roosevelt Avenue was closed between Peer Street and Isabel Street, but has since reopened.
