Chicopee Police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile this morning after receiving a call about a male party pointing a black handgun at passing cars.
Police responded to Center and West St. just before 10 AM.
Witnesses told police that the weapon appeared to be a 9 mm handgun.
When Officer Romano located the person walking down School St., he approached in a marked cruiser. Police say the suspect began reaching into his waistband, grabbing the weapon.
At gun point, Officer Romano ordered the suspect to put his hands up and lay on the ground.
"He complied. As the suspect was handcuffed, the black handgun was seized. The firearm turned out to be a realistic looking air pistol, modeled after a Colt Firearm, in which the orange tip was cut down, almost off," said Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk.
He was charged with Assault with a dangerous weapon, Disturbance while carrying a dangerous weapon, and City Ordinance Violation (Poss Marijuana). He will be arraigned in Juvenile Court tomorrow.
