WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A police pursuit that originated in Springfield crossed the Connecticut River and ended on Bacon Street in West Springfield after the driver crashed and two suspects fled on foot.

State police say the driver of a Nissan Altima failed to stop for Springfield officers at about 9:40 p.m., prompting state troopers and West Springfield police to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

State police from the Troop B Community Action Team and West Springfield police officers located the vehicle a short time later crashed on Bacon Street off of Route 5 near the Mass Pike.

The two men inside of the vehicle ran into the woods toward the Connecticut River. Police established a perimeter and a state police K-9 unit successfully tracked the suspects.

Police seized a handgun from the suspect's crashed vehicle.

Andrew Cruz, 24, and Edwin Guzman, 34, both of Springfield, were arrested a short time later. The charges are still being determined by state police.
