Former Springfield city councilor John Lysak arrested for sexual assault of a minor

Posted: Updated:

A former city council member in Springfield has been arraigned on charges of indecent assault and battery in connection with allegations that he sexually assaulted a minor last year.

John Lysak, 36, was taken into custody at 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney said they executed an arrest warrant issued out of Northampton for his home in Springfield.

According to Mary Carey with the Hampshire District Attorney's Office, Lysak was arraigned in Northampton District Court on Friday. Carey told Western Mass News the incident involving the minor occurred in Goshen back in August 2014.

During his arraignment the judge ordered Lysak be fitted with a Global Positioning Device (GPS) pending trial and released him on his own recognizance.

The former city councilor is due back in court July 9 for a pre-trial hearing.
