TURNERS FALLS, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A late night shooting in Montague left residents in shock after one man was shot and injured.

The unidentified victim was shot at 15 Fifth St.

Montague police and search dogs have been combing the area for any leads on the shooting.

The suspect reportedly sped away from the scene in a car.

When police arrived, the victim and his girlfriend were found in the parking lot of a nearby credit union.

The victim was conscious and alert. Police said he appeared to have at least two gunshot wounds, but was not cooperating with police.

The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. What we do know is that he suffered serious injuries, but they do not appear to be life threatening.

Western Mass News spoke to a woman who works just a few doors down from incident and she said she sees a lot of activity on that street, but noted that a shooting was the last thing she expected.

"I just thought 'Oh my God. Is this really happening here in Turners?' We worked really hard to bring Turners up a little bit and it just seems like there's a lot of drug activity and it's very scary here for all of us," said Leah Branch of Montague.

There are no suspects but police have received tips and say that this incident was not random.
