The West Springfield fire department had to respond to a fire at Carrabba's Italian Grill on Riverdale Street Sunday morning.
According to police firefighters were called to the scene for a "structure fire" there. This was just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Several calls came into our newsroom from people in the area who saw smoke and flames coming from the restaurant. There were also employees working at the time who were able to evacuate out of the building.
No word yet on the extent of damage or what caused the fire to start.
By about 11:45 a.m. our crew on scene reported that firefighters were starting to wrap things up and the situation appeared to be under control. There was also no damage visible from the outside of the restaurant.
