SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

It's a First Warning Weather Day Tuesday here at Western Mass News as ingredients for an atmospheric recipe for severe storms are mixing together tomorrow afternoon and early evening.

A spray of midday hazy sunshine, a cup of high humidity and the atmosphere acting like a mixer to stir it all up with an upper level disturbance will cook up severe storms Tuesday.

These systems will punch into western Mass from 2-6 pm with a few likely to reach the severe category as a cold front approaches from the west. Any storm that develops tomorrow afternoon or evening has the potential to bring heavy rain, damaging wind and medium to large hail.

Again, the timing for severe weather is 2 - 6 p.m.

On the other side of the cold front it turns less hot and very pleasant for Wednesday and part of Thursday as well.

First Warning Forecast

  • Monday night: Clear early with increasing clouds late. Lows: 60-64.
  • Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, warm and humid with afternoon showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could be strong to severe. Highs: 82-88.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, pleasant. Highs: 80-84.
  • Thursday: Sun to clouds. High near 78.
