Eversource is working to identify “equipment issues” that caused more than 1,000 customers to lose power in Springfield's Liberty Heights neighborhood on Monday night.
Police closed Liberty Street between Woodmont and Carew streets after they say officers spotted smoke coming from a manhole on Liberty Street during a power outage. An Eversource official told Western Mass News that the equipment problem was most likely underground.
Eversource did not have an estimated time for power restoration, but officials say the power outage will most likely last about two hours.
Eversource's outage map indicated that 1,005 people were without power in Springfield at about 11 p.m.
