PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) -- Casino gambling is getting started in Massachusetts.

Plainridge Park Casino held its ribbon-cutting Wednesday morning. Hundreds of special guests attended the event at the state's first slots parlor, located near the Rhode Island border.

The first paying customers are expected to be allowed entry around noon. More than a hundred people were already lined up outside, some coming as early at 8:30 a.m.

Workers were still fine tuning some of the facility's 1,250 gambling machines; outside they were putting final touches on landscaping.

Former New England Patriots quarterback Doug Flutie owns a bar in the new casino. He says the facility will "make Massachusetts proud."

The $250 million casino is the smallest of three gambling halls opening in Massachusetts in the coming years.
