A special ceremony was held today at St. Michael's Cathedral in Springfield.
Bishop Mitchell Rozanski ordained eight men as permanent deacons for the Springfield Diocese.
With this class, there will be more than 90 permanent deacons all together.
Among them is Angel Diaz of Springfield, who will be assigned to his home parish.
"This is a wonderful day. We have families coming from all over to join us in this celebration of love and God's love. We are just overjoyed and overwhelmed with the response and support from families," said Diaz.
Diaz says he looks forward to serving those who need it the most.
The first permanent deacons in the Diocese of Springfield were ordained in 1983.
