SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A man showed up at a Springfield hospital Saturday night with multiple gunshot wounds following reports of shots fired on Knox Street.

Police responded to Knox St. in Springfield on Saturday night around 9 p.m.

Springfield police Lt. Richard LaBelle told Western Mass News they did not find the injured man on scene. He showed up by himself at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with gunshot wounds to his "left shoulder, left jaw and side of his face. Shot multiple times," explained LaBelle.

Shortly after midnight the man left the hospital on foot. Police have not found him yet. LaBelle says this was a gang related incident adding that the man was "belligerent and uncooperative."

On his condition police believe his injuries are not life threatening, "however, there's always the danger of infection," noted LaBelle.

Saturday night Western Mass News covered the scene on Knox Street. Our crew spotted at least four markers on the ground while police worked the scene and they also spotted several marked and unmarked police cruisers.

Detectives looking for evidence spent over an hour combing the area.
