SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Hundreds made their way to Springfield for the annual 'Stop The Violence' day.

It's a day to give back and remember.

It's held every year by a local group called Wake Up.

Their mission is to be apart of the solution to the problems in the city. Kyreem Tabar tells Western Mass News why the group is so important to him.

"At one point in my life in my younger years, I got caught up in the streets. Going through the process and its trials and tribulations, I woke up. I wanted to make a change. I wanted to give back to my community," said Tabar.

The Springfield Police and Fire Department were also at the event to talk to the children there.

More than 400 people attended.
