A wreath was placed in front of the Korean War Memorial this afternoon at Court Square in Springfield to honor those who lost their lives in the Korean War.
Thursday marked the 65th anniversary.
Every year, those who lived come together to remember the men and women who sacrificed their life.
'The world has changed because of what these men and women who served in Korea did. It's a positive change. Unfortunately, it didn't show right away but as we all see today, it just shines as a nation. Its because of all of the troops that formed the United Nations efforts to free South Korea," said Richard Tyrell, Chairman of the Springifeld Veterans Activities Committee.
Captain James Mcinerney was the guest speaker. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948.
Mcinerney served in Korea in 1950. He then spent 33 months as a Chinese prisoner of war.
He re-enlisted and served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.
