A few showers and storms popping up

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM)) -

It was another cool, fantastic start this morning with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. In fact, we tied the record low of 50 degrees! Temperatures have been climbing quickly under blue skies and sunshine!  However, an upper level system to our north will rotate down across eastern New England and will trigger a few scattered showers and storms here in western Massachusetts.  With lots of cold air aloft any storm could produce some hail along with gusty winds and heavy rain. Temperatures will briefly cool quickly in any downpour as well.  The bulk of the activity will be across eastern Mass. The time frame for any storms will be between 3 pm - 7 pm. As soon as we lose the heating of the day any downpours or storms will fizzle quickly so skies will clear and temperatures will cool back into the 50s overnight. It will be another great night for sleeping!

The upper level system will be gone by tomorrow, so there will be no showers or thunderstorms around to start the weekend. Saturday is still the pick of the weekend with sunshine mixing with some afternoon cloudiness. The air mass will still be relatively comfortable with temperatures in the lower 80s and dew points in the 50s.

A warm front will move through tomorrow night, so Sunday will become humid. Be ready on Sunday for a couple of early morning showers then a few afternoon thundershowers. Keep in mind, most of the day it will not be raining as rainfall will be scattered in nature.

Next week is looking hot and humid! We may see our first heat wave of the summer as high pressure builds off shore allowing for the heat and humidity to build in!
