Lightning struck a tree on Russelville Road in Westfield, forcing crews to close the road as the tree threatened power lines below.
Residents living at Liberty Manor say lightning struck near them too.
Thunderstorms were so bad that residents say they've never heard anything like it before.
"I was sitting watching TV and all of a sudden it was just this like a huge bolt of lightning and the TV went out," said Lee Lacianski.
Lee says officials aren't sure where the lightning hit. But, it knocked out her power.
"The fire department and the police department came just to check and make sure, you know, that was everything was OK and that there was no fire," Lacianski said.
She says she's never heard thunder like that before.
"Way loud, way loud, I jumped off of my chair. Wherever it hit, it hit really close," said Lacianski. "We've had some bad storms before but never anything like this."
It's a similar story for her neighbor Jocelyne Gonthier. She recently moved in.
"Ugh, it was terrible. You know, I was so scared," said Jocelyne Gonthier. "My phone is off, my line is off, my AC. My garage isn't working and I don't have light," said Gonthier.
