After a very hot and humid but dry day Wednesday, the heat returns Thursday and it gets even muggier! Temperatures topped out in the lower and middle 90s Wednesday afternoon with dew points mostly in the 60s.
Thursday will be hot and humid as well with temperatures back close to 90. If we hit 90 it would become our first official heat wave of the summer (three days in a row of temperatures over 90 degrees). The difference Thursday is dew points will spike up into the lower and perhaps middle 70s! This will put the heat index well up into the 90s and make it dangerous again to be outdoors for extended periods - especially for the very young, the elderly, those with respiratory issues and for the pets!
A cool front brings some relief though for Friday as the air becomes much less muggy. As the front approaches late Thursday, scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to roll through. A few storms will contain damaging winds and hail. The highest threat for strong storms will be between 4 PM and 7 PM here in the Pioneer Valley. Watch for torrential rainfall, those strong, gusty winds and lots of dangerous lightning.
