GREENFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The Greenfield fire chief ordered that the gas and water be shut off in the area on Main Street following a water main break, which also forced Greenfield firefighters from their headquarters Thursday evening.

The break occurred at the intersection of Hope and Main streets at about 6:20 p.m., forcing police to close the road to traffic while crews made repairs.

All of the Greenfield Fire Department trucks are currently parked outside of the facility near the intersection of Hope and Main streets.

The water and gas lines were turned back on at about 11 p.m.

Greenfield firefighters along with crews from Turners Falls extinguished a house fire Thursday afternoon that left seven families without a home.
