Beneficial rain for some, others not so much

Posted: Updated:

Rain totals are still coming in, but one report from Northfield was astounding. At South Mountain Lawn Care, they measured 3.25" of rain from 5:45 am to 8:00 am, then only 1/4" during the day until they were deluged with  2" in under an hour. They totaled nearly 5.25" for the day! Some areas didn't see a drop while most saw at least a half inch to an inch of much needed water for the lawn and garden.

Most of the rainfall, hail, and storm damage was in Franklin county today especially eastern areas from Greenfield to Erving and Warwick to Leverett. There were several reports of downed trees due to damaging wind and these took out some power lines as well. Road and basement flooding were other issues. We issued a First Warning Weather Day for this very reason. To alert you that this type of weather would impact western Mass. It's all part of our commitment to keeping you and your family safe and prepared. Not everyone saw severe weather or even rainfall today, but many did. Now we can enjoy a fine stretch of rain-free days!
