MONSON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Four years later, the town of Monson has re-opened their trails. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Keep Homestead Museum opened the trails that were damaged in the June 2011 tornado.

The trail was in the direct path of the tornado.

Board of directors Emmaladd Shephard says it has been a long time coming.

"I came up here the morning after the tornado, just dreading what I was going to find because I knew that the tornado hit right here," said Shephard. "The trail maintenance crew came shortly after the tornado and did some clearing. And then, we had the Halloween blizzard which took down more trees," said Shephard.

Shephard says many volunteers made this day possible.

New signage and maps have been put up.

Shepherd also paid respect to John Colleton, a long time volunteer at the museum.
