It's September, the start of meteorological fall, and we know it can be warm, but did you know the record high for the month is 101?
That was the high temperature on Sept. 2nd, 1953. Most record highs for the month are in the 90s including 99 which is the record for this Friday, 9/11, set in 1983.
Many record highs were broken that year which was an El Nino summer when surface waters in the Pacific were warmer than average. We are currently in an El Nino as well and this could lead to above normal temperatures over the next several months.
We reached a high of 92 Monday and broke the record high of 91 set in 1943 at Westover A.R.B. We will likely see highs reach the mid 90s Tuesday breaking the old record of 91 from 1945.
It stays humid through Thursday with dew point temperatures peaking in the low 70s before a cold front presses in Friday morning. The weekend will feature a new air mass arriving with cooler air and comfortable conditions.
