Weekend starts dry, ends showery

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Get ready for a great start to the weekend but a sometimes soggy finish. Skies will generally be clear of clouds this evening before some overnight clouds mix in. Skies stay mostly clear to partly cloudy into Saturday morning. This ends up being the best part of the weekend.

Skies will eventually become cloudy Saturday as low pressure approaches from the Ohio Valley and eventually slows down and moves right over New England. Showers or rain will develop by late afternoon in the Berkshires and by mid-evening here in the valley. Periods of rain continue overnight in Sunday morning with most seeing another 1/2" to 1" overnight.

Rain Sunday morning will taper to scattered showers and some mist before ending. Most of Sunday afternoon and evening should be dry but if we see some breaks of sun, the atmosphere could become unstable quickly and allow for a few pop-up afternoon showers and even an isolated thundershower.

The good news is drier air arrives Monday as clouds clear. This will start a long stretch of beautiful late summer weather that should last much, if not all of next week!
