SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Get ready for a great start to the weekend but a sometimes soggy finish. We are dealing with some areas of fog this morning which is dense in spots. After the fog lifts, skies stay mostly clear to partly cloudy into this morning and early afternoon. This ends up being the best part of the weekend.
Skies will eventually become cloudy later this afternoon as low pressure approaches from the Ohio Valley and eventually slows down and moves right over New England. Showers or rain will develop by late afternoon in the Berkshires and by early evening here in the valley. Periods of rain continue overnight in Sunday morning with most seeing another 1/2" to 1" overnight.
Rain Sunday morning will taper to scattered showers and some mist. But with upper-level energy approaching and swinging through, more showers and perhaps a thundershower are likely Sunday afternoon into the evening hours as it turns cooler.
The good news is drier air arrives Monday as clouds clear. This will start a long stretch of beautiful late summer weather that should last much, if not all of next week!
