PITTSFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Pittsfield officers working the front desk got quite the surprise on Friday.

The Police Department posted on their Facebook Page that officers working the desk heard a commotion in their front lobby.

"We went running out to see what the fuss was about," the Department said.

Nine children were holding a sign, thanking the police officers for keeping them safe.

Police say the children were from the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center in Pittsfield.

Today is National 'Thank a Police Officer Day'.

The children said they wanted to show their appreciation.
