Week 4 featured several intriguing match-ups across Western Mass., but many highly anticipated contests turned into lob-sided affairs Friday night.
In the AA Conference, Longmeadow and Central were fighting to keep pace atop the standings as they squared off in Springfield. The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first half, using the running game to cut through the tough Lancers defense with rain coming down. The attack was led by running back Tyreque Estrada-Crapps, who ran for 246 yards and four touchdowns.
Longmeadow showed their resilience in the third quarter, however, scoring two-straight touchdowns to cut the lead. Max Stukalin scored his second of the game, before Joey Cosenzi punched in a touchdown to bring the Lancers to within four. The ensuing drive, the Golden Eagles faced a 4th and 1 in Lancers territory, but they knew exactly where to go with it. Estrada-Crapps broke through the line and ran it all the way for a touchdown. Central wins their third-straight, 31-20.
Meanwhile, East Longmeadow lost their third-straight, as they couldn't keep up with Andrew Peltier and the Holyoke Purple Knights. Peltier found Brian Swierzewski twice for touchdowns, while DeVante Wardell brought back a punt 37 yards for a score. Holyoke wins big, 49-12.
Agawam, meanwhile, continued their early-season dominance with a 59-6 win over Amherst. The Brownies are still the only undefeated team in the Suburban Conference and have now scored 191 points on the season, while allowing just 19.
