Not only was this year’s Big E filled with rides, vendors, and food, but it was filled with local organizations giving back to the West Springfield community.
“All the firefighters from West Springfield Fire, we all volunteer our time during the fair to run this restaurant,” said Steve Manchino from the West Springfield Fire Department.
The West Springfield Fire Dept. volunteers to help run the Firehouse Restaurant, which raises money for local organizations in the community.
“We benefit a wide variety of different charities. We try to focus on families in the community who are in need,” said Manchino.
On Sunday, The Big E celebrated the Special Olympics. Vendors all throughout the fair love seeing The Big E recognize such an incredible cause.
“They celebrate so many different things here and I think it’s awesome that they are able to do something like that,” said Jessica Williams.
For the West Springfield Fire Department, it's a lot more than just making food, it's giving back to a community that they are constantly working to protect.
“It’s a great night for them to come out and it’s their special day," said Manchino.
The 2015 Big E was a major success in attendance and vendors, but it was an even greater success, giving back to a community and helping to change people’s lives right in West Springfield
