Hackathon encourages student innovation at WNEU

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Today is the the largest single day of student hacking ever. But, it's not the kind of "hacking" you may be thinking about.

Saturday's 12-hour mini hackathon at Western New England University brought together local hackers to create new technology together.

Several other colleges are holding their own local "Hack Day" today as well.

"A hackathon is a chance for different students to get together, usually at one place or a university, and make something cool with the technology that they provide," said Tyler Redzko, student at WNEU.

Throughout the day, live-stream workshops and chat-rooms were available for students who are interested in meeting others in the community and across the globe who are interested in hackathons.
