A couple of showers, rumble of thunder this afternoon

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

It's a rather mild afternoon with temperatures back into the lower 70s. There will be some sun but lots of clouds this afternoon as a cold front slides our way. Although most of the day will be dry keep the umbrella on stand by. There will be a couple of showers or perhaps even a rumble of thunder later on.

The rest of the week is looking cooler as a fall chill settles in. Tomorrow will start with plenty of sunshine but some cloudiness will billow up as an upper level system spins across norther New England. High temperatures will drop into the middle 60s, closer to where they should be for this time of year. Thursday is looking a bit brighter but cooler with highs near 60.

A second cold front, this week, will move through some time on Friday with a few more showers or a quick downpour, followed by the coldest weather of the season moving in for the weekend. A cold blast of air will arrive on Saturday with gusty winds. You'll need the thicker jacket! Readings will struggle to make it into the 50s. As winds ease Saturday night readings will plummet! A hard freeze is likely Sunday morning! It will likely put an end to the growing season as temperatures dip into the 20s for at least a few hours. Although Sunday will be bright it will be cold! Temperatures will average a good 15 degrees below normal. Most spots will be stuck in the 40s. It will be a pretty day with sunny skies and lots of color cascading across the landscape but it will feel more like late November or early December! Hang in there, it appears as though temperatures will rebound by next week. We may see 70 yet again!
