SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Saturday's Blue Mass honored Springfield police officers, state troopers, firefighters, and their families.

Officers were asked to attend in uniform. They were recognized and honored for their services.

Bishop Mitchell Rozanski gave the officers a blessing as family members watched proudly.

"We're just to celebrate and honor police officers, firefighters, all law enforcement, and public service. And the mass is to honor those who serve, those who fell, and those who continue to serve," said Franisco Duncan.

The mass began with a procession into the cathedral followed by the liturgy.
