Belchertown police are investigating a series of home break-ins in the southern part of town near the route 181 corridor.
It's the last news Christine Hurst wants to hear.
"It makes me a little nervous. Right now, I'm not driving for a while until the doctor says so. So, I'll be here and that's kind of scary," said Hurst.
Hurst had a heart attack a few weeks ago, and is still recovering.
"If somebody is watching your house, it only takes a minute for them to figure out your schedule," said Hurst.
Hurst said she's never heard of houses being broken into around this part of town.
Witnesses believe the break-ins are happening in the afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30.
"I've been hearing on the south end where we live that there has been house break-ins, the guy has been smashing windows in, going into their houses," said Andy Katafisz.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot young white male with long shaggy hair or wearing a long bean winter hat. Witnesses saw him run into a tan or white sedan heading south on 181.
The alarming news is that all of the homes broken into were secured. The doors and windows were both locked.
"We're basically a commuter town, people working all the time, so houses are empty," said Katafisz.
While the news is certainly unsettling, Andy says he's not scared.
"We have a video surveillance system. We have an alarm system in the house, plus we are protected in other ways," said Katafisz.
