Hundreds of students compete in Amherst Hackathon

AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A weekend long competition in Amherst is giving students the chance to create new technology. More than 500 students from across the Northeast had 36 hours to compete in today's Hackathon.

The students built everything from websites, to mobile applications, and hardware projects.

"People from computer systems engineering, electrical engineering and computer science. They kind of come together and they have 36 hours to start from scratch and build a project," said Frankie Viscusi.

It's also a way to be seen by tech companies who are looking to hire the most creative students who are thinking out of the box.
