(CNN) - Ford is recalling more than 450,000 cars because of a potential fuel leak.
The recall includes 2010 and 2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models built at a Ford assembly plant in Mexico.
The vehicles have a canister purge valve that may malfunction and cause a crack in the fuel tank, which could eventually lead to a fire.
Company officials said they are not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to the defect.
Ford and Mercury dealers will update software and inspect the fuel tanks of affected vehicles at no cost to the consumer.
