Extended stretch of mild December Temps

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -
It's nice and mild out there with temperatures pushing into the 50s! Although some cloudiness will stick around this afternoon we'll see some sunshine mixing in as well. Temperatures will top off in the middle 50s. It should be a nice afternoon to spend some time out doors. And you can get use to it too, the 50s will be sticking around for the next week! There may even be few days with temperatures touching 60! High pressure will take control here in the northeast bringing with it near record warmth. The next chance of rain will not arrive until Monday afternoon as a cold front swings through. Even on the other side of the front conditions will still be rather mild.

The weekend will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds with temperatures into the middle 50s on Saturday and near 60 on Sunday. A backdoor cold front will drop temperatures into the upper 40s for eastern Mass but that front should fall shy of western Mass. Either way, everyone warms back up on Monday, out ahead of a cold front. It will be down right balmy on Monday with windy, mild conditions. Rain will move in during the afternoon. The rain will be heavy at times with embedded downpours and maybe even a rumble of thunder. It looks as though we could pick up about 1/2 to 1" of rain. We need it so it's not necessarily a bad thing. Although it will be a bit cooler after the front responsible for the rain moves out however temperatures will still be rather mild. We likely wont cool down to more seasonable levels until the end of next week.
