Springfield man dies after suffering gunshot wound to the leg

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

47-year-old Larry Finney of Springfield has died after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg on Thursday. 

The Springfield Police Department responded to reports of a shots fired at 122 Benton St. in Springfield.

Sgt. John Delaney says first responders found Finney in the driveway. He was shot once in the upper thigh. 

Two people in dark clothing were seen running from the scene. 

"The Condition of the victim worsened at the hospital and he was rushed into surgery. Mr. Finney died of the gunshot wound last evening at 8:40 pm," said Delaney. 

Police Commissioner John Barbieri has extended his condolences to the family of Mr. Finney. Extra patrols have been ordered on Benton St. 

This marks the city's 18th homicide of the year.
