Police: Marijuana growing operation shut down during Springfield raid

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Police were able to shut down an alleged marijuana growing operation during a raid in Springfield late last week.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney said that over the last several weeks, residents had been complaining of traffic coming to and going from a Whittier Street home.

Around 5 p.m. Thursday, officers conducted a raid on that home and arrested 33-year-old Justin Festa, who was allegedly the target of that investigation, on the third floor of the home.

Delaney explained that investigators found a marijuana growing operation on the second floor of the home, which included hydroponic lights, a feeding and watering system, packaged marijuana, and 37 plants that were in various stages of growth.

Police also reportedly found nine bags of heroin, packaging material, scales, and $4,230 in cash during the raid.

Festa is facing several charges including possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, and cultivating marijuana.
