Sunny, pleasant mid-December day

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (AP) -

High pressure will settle across western Mass this afternoon so skies will be sunny and winds will be light. It will be a pleasant afternoon with temperatures reaching near 50. Readings will average about 8 to 10 degrees above normal. Yet another rather mild December day!

An area of low pressure will move our way tomorrow. Clouds will increase overnight bringing us some pockets of drizzle and a few showers tomorrow followed by steady rain tomorrow evening. We could see about 1/2" to 1" of rain. The bulk of the rain will fall between 6pm and midnight.

With temps starting out in the 30s tomorrow morning there could be a touch of freezing drizzle across the hill towns. Just something to be aware of for your morning commute.

Unlike this past storm, on the other side of this system colder more seasonable air will move in from Canada. The cold air will be delayed so Friday will still be mild but the chill will arrive for the weekend. Temperatures will be more December-like with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. The wind on Saturday will make it feel a bit colder. It will be the coldest weather this season so far. But nothing unusual for this time of year.

The cold weather doesn't stick around long. After Sunday, the mild air returns.  It's a bit early to throw out specific numbers, but we're talking potentially 15- 25° above average by the middle of next week including Christmas Eve and Day!
