After a chilly weekend a big warm-up is still on the way this week including for Christmas Eve and Day. Incredible warmth, for this time of year will build in as a southerly flow takes hold. Although winter begins today it will not feel very much like it. The winter solstice is at 11:48 PM.
The jet stream will lift into Canada as another ridge builds across the eastern U.S. and this will help bring in the warmth! In fact, as Santa arrives temperatures may climb into the 60s on Christmas Eve and to near 60 on Christmas Day!
There will be some rain around this week too. A few showers will move through tomorrow and perhaps some steadier, heavier rain for late Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Interestingly enough, it won't be a brown Christmas, but a green one. The ground has not frozen allowing lawns to continue showing their color due to the mild weather over the last several weeks. The unusually mild pattern will hold through the end of the year too.
