NORTHAMPTON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A bear and two deer carcasses, found on the banks of the Connecticut River in Northampton, have environmental police launching an investigation.

A Northampton native reported finding the animals when he was taking a walk along the river.

He says someone had removed the deer's antlers and the bear had a slash in its abdomen.

Recent reports confirm bear gall bladders can be sold in the black market to be used in medicine.

The black bear hunting season in Massachusetts ended in late November.

Deer hunting season goes through the end of the year.
