Rain Overnight with Record Warmth on Christmas Eve

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The fog from this morning will give way to a second round of rain later this afternoon through early Thursday morning. We may even hear a rumble of thunder as some overnight showers move through. Despite the rain and clouds, expect mid 50s this afternoon.

As this system move out on Thursday, it will be remarkably warm for Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve. Temperatures reach for 70 by afternoon and remain in the 60s well in to the evening.  There may be some showers on Christmas Eve morning but most of the day will be dry with some sunshine working in.

Due to the strong warming on Christmas Eve, there is a chance we could beat the record high on Christmas Day as well. The current record is 63, and it's possible we could reach that around midnight on Christmas Eve. As far as the Christmas itself, it is looking beautiful will some sun and more warmth. Temperatures will reach close to 60!

We are closely watching the potential for our first taste of winter early next week. Tuesday and Wednesday have the chance for some icy or snowy precipitation to exist. It will be cold enough to support a wintry mix. We will have more details as the beginning of next week draws closer.
