Drivers urged to be extra cautious during the holiday season

Posted: Updated:

With the increased traffic from the holiday rush, drivers are being reminded to be safe when on the road. Between holiday parties, and people traveling, the holiday hustle and bustle can cause some drivers to become distracted and careless behind the wheel.

Police are urging drivers to be cautious and aware of other cars. “you have a lot of people out there that are going way too fast,” said Mark Ellis, of Springfield.

A fatal crash in Westfield shutdown route 20 for several hours on Christmas Eve. Two cars collided around 6:30 P.M. One person was killed in the crash. The accident remains under investigation. While the cause is unclear, the accident serves as a reminder to be cautious during the holiday season.

Some people say they make an effort to be extra cautious during the holiday season. “I have a 3 year old daughter, so we try to not drive out late at night. And seat belts all around, always. We take as many precautions as we can,” said Chris Turner, of West Springfield. Drivers should be aware that police will be patrolling during the holiday week.
