A low level wind off the Atlantic will develop today and tonight. At the same time, a weak system will move our way from the southwest, which will deliver moisture late night through early Saturday morning. Both of these move in with temperatures near 30 at the ground. This is the reason for freezing drizzle and freezing mist early Saturday. This can be very dangerous. Please be cautious and pay attention to updated forecast information.
With the precipitation very light and spotty, the road may be dry in one place and then become icy in another. The hill towns may see a wintry mix with some tiny snowflakes falling as well as some super-cooled mist that freezes when it falls onto cold objects. Bridges, steps, untreated surfaces, metal objects, windshields, etc all freeze more effectively before other types of surfaces. Keep the sand/salt or ice-melt ready for Saturday morning, and remember to keep pets safe from ice melting chemicals.
