SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - It's shaping up to be a rainy and windy end to the weekend. A area of low pressure to our west combined with a warm front to our north means that we are on the warmer side of this system.
Rain will develop this morning and will come down heavy at times. There could even be a thunderstorm. Winds will also begin to ramp up this morning and will become quite gusty at times. Here in the valley we could see winds gusting to 40 mph while in the Berkshires winds could gust to 50 mph. There is a Wind Advisory in effect for Berkshire county through noon today. Winds could be strong enough to bring down tree limbs and cause some scattered power outages.
Despite the rain and the wind a mild day is in store with highs in the lower 50s. The record high for today at Westover is 50 set back in 1972 and there is a good chance that record will fall. Rain will wind down this evening with some clearing late tonight. It will still be windy tonight with sustained winds of 10-25 mph with some higher gusts. Colder air will move in as well with lows dropping back into the upper 20s.
It remains windy and seasonably cold to start the new work week. A low pressure area may bring some snow showers Tuesday night into Wednesday before even colder air pushes in.
