Snow showers & squalls leave winter white across the area

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The snow showers we were forecasting have arrived, dropping a quick 1-3" across much of western Mass. We are expecting the back edge of the main line to move thru by 7-8pm. While the accumulations are minor, we are concerned about the slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Snow totals measured across western Mass:

  • 1" in Ware - NWS Boston
  • 1" in Palmer - Donald B.
  • 7/8" in East Longmeadow - Dan B.
  • 3/4" in Springfield - Western Mass News Studios
  • 1" in Northampton - David M.
  • .5" in West Springfield - Peter S.

The final push of snow comes thru around 11pm to midnight. This is associated with the cold front that keeps us chilly as we head in to Wednesday. A stiff breeze will make the wind chills feel like the low teens to single digits Wednesday afternoon.

A wind advisory will go in to effect at 1 AM Wednesday morning, lasting until 5 PM Wednesday evening. Winds could gust in excess of 45mph Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday will be cool and breezy with temperatures nearing 30 both days.

We are watching the chances for a coastal system over the weekend. While it's too early to make a call right now, we could be talking about our biggest snow of the year.
