SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -  An area of low pressure off of Nantucket continues to intensify this morning and is bringing mainly rain to the Springfield area. As you go north and west of Springfield there could be some light freezing rain or wet snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Western Massachusetts through noon today.

Precipitation comes to an end by this afternoon. By the time it all winds down some of the hill towns and Berkshires could see 1-3" of snow. If you are heading out to the Patriots game this evening it should be drying out. Highs today top out in the mid 30s to around 40. Lows tonight drop back into the mid 20s under partly cloudy skies.

Another coastal low passes out to sea on Sunday, keeping us dry. An Arctic front will deliver a flurries and snow showers Sunday night into Monday as this second storm pushes away. Behind this front, temperatures will top off in the lower twenties Monday and Tuesday afternoon with lows in the lower teens and a feel-like temperature near zero. The brutal cold retreats Thursday.
