Mostly clear and cold tonight. Sunshine to close out the weekend

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Not a bad afternoon for clearing snow or maybe even building a snowman. Temperatures topped off in the mid to upper 30s this afternoon but a chilly night is on the way once again. Under clear skies tonight temperatures drop off quickly once again and overnight lows fall back into the upper teens to around 20. Skies become mostly sunny to close out the weekend and we will see highs top out in the upper 30s and lower 40s. That will certainly help to aid in melting some of the snow.

Next week is more winter-like as the jet stream takes a sharp plunge over the mid-west where arctic air will invade. We get a piece of this on Monday. At the same time, a strong Nor'easter will be taking shape. The track of this storm and how it interacts with a storm coming at us from the mid-west will determine how much snow we receive. It may snow lightly for a couple of days, or it may be more significant. We'll be watching this scenario closely.
