Get ready for the coldest air of the season thus far! We are expecting temperatures well below normal with dangerous wind chills this weekend!
Temperatures fell below zero for the first time this winter! A more intense, dangerously cold surge of air will arrive later this morning. This batch of cold will be bring with it the coldest weather of the season and possibly the coldest weather we've seen in years! When it arrives there could be a few scattered snow showers through the morning. Temperatures start in the upper single digits low teens and will tumble into the lower single digits by tomorrow afternoon! Along with the falling temperatures there will be strong, gusty northwesterly winds, making it feel as cold as 25 to 35 below zero!
If you are going to be out and about this weekend certainly make sure you dress in layers and cover all exposed skin since frost bite can occur quickly with temperatures and wind chills so low!
In fact, A Wind Chill Warning goes into effect at 4 PM this afternoon through noon on Sunday! This is when the cold and wind will be most intense! The NWS says this could be "life threatening wind chills". Please be careful outside.
Sunday will be brutal with morning lows well below zero and daytime highs struggling to reach 10. Winds will once again keep wind chills well below zero! The record low Sunday morning is -15. We'll be close to breaking it. If you don't have to be outside this weekend, it's probably best to stay indoors.
The cold will ease on Monday after starting below zero. We'll recover into the middle and upper 20s. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will shoot out of the Gulf with tons of moisture. But it looks as this storm will be an "inside runner", this means the cold air will retreat into Canada as the storm tracks just to our west. This means any snow that moves in Monday night will change to sleet and freezing rain and eventually moderate rain on Tuesday! Stay tuned!
