It's shaping up to be another bitterly cold night tonight. At least winds are not going to be a factor overnight. Our attention turns to a storm system for late Monday into Tuesday that will bring a wintry mix to the region before we see a change over to rain on Tuesday.
Under clear skies and diminishing winds we will see temperatures fall off quickly tonight. Overnight lows will fall back to about -11 to -15 in many areas with some of the colder spots possibly falling back to -20. The record low for tomorrow morning at Westover is -18 set back in 1943 and it's not out of the question for that record to fall.
Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow afternoon as a storm system approaches from the southwest. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for all of Western Massachusetts at 1pm tomorrow afternoon and continues through Tuesday morning. At this point it looks like much of the daylight hours are dry. Snow develops late Monday afternoon into Monday night before possibly changing over to sleet & freezing rain overnight Monday into early Tuesday. It looks like the precipitation goes over to all rain Tuesday morning. We could see a couple of inches of snow before the change over takes place. Highs on Monday top out in the mid to upper 20s with temperatures rising into the mid to upper 40s on Tuesday.
