A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for all of western Mass until 9am.
A storm system will track through NY state today. This puts us on the mild side, but it's taking some time for that air to reach the valley. Mild air is lighter and is riding up above the cold air at the surface. This is the reason for the freezing rain. Expect spotty light freezing rain through the morning commute with an accumulation of a tenth to a quarter inch of ice.
It will be very treacherous and icy for this morning's commute. Allow yourself plenty of extra time as you head out. However, by the time the main surge of moisture arrives, the atmosphere will be mild. By tomorrow evening, temps will spike near 50 as the wind increase out of the south ahead of a cold front. Rain, heavy at times, so watch out for big puddles in areas of poor drainage. There may even be a rumble of thunder late in the afternoon as a strong line of convective rains move through. We can expect about 1" of rain before it ends near 6 pm.
We'll have seasonal temperatures Wednesday thru Friday, with a chance of some snow on Friday evening.
