Hack or Hassle: Keeping bananas fresher for longer

Keeping fresh fruit in the house is an important way to keep a balanced diet, but with a limited shelf life, remembering to stock up can be tough.

Life hacks have gained popularity on the internet. They are tricks designed to make everyday tasks easier and more cost effective. While many life hacks that have made the rounds online have proven their value, some end up just being a waste of time.

Western Mass News has set out to put popular life hacks to the test in a series called ‘Hack or Hassle.’

A life hack to keep bananas fresh longer began to circulate online. The hack claimed that by wrapping saran wrap over the stems. When you reach for a banana, simply snip off a piece of fruit.

Western Mass News bought two bunches of bananas at the same time from the same grocery store. One was wrapped in saran wrap, while the others were not.

They both ripened at the same pace and eventually rotted at the same time.

This life hack ended up being a hassle.
