Record Warmth for the Pioneer Valley

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

It's an absolutely beautiful afternoon! We'll be basking in the warm sunshine and record breaking temperatures, as readings climb into the middle 70s and hitting 80 in Springfield! We've already broken the record high of 68 which was set in 2002 and 2000!

Though we didn’t have a tough winter, today was like the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. The last time we touched 80 was on September 29th! It will be a nearly perfect afternoon and evening to spend time outside!

Although we are expecting showers or even a few periods of rain tomorrow, it is still looking very mild with temperatures back into the 60s. The wettest part of the day will be in the afternoon as a front sags south through western Mass. If we break out of the clouds and see some sunshine, we could see temperatures back in to 70s before the rain moves in.

This front will clear the area early Friday morning and will bring in drier air for Friday and for most of the weekend. However, even on the other side of this front, it will stay mild. Both Friday and Saturday are looking beautiful with sunny skies and mild temperatures. Readings both days will still average about 15-20 degrees above normal, putting temperatures into the lower 60s! It will be slightly cooler on Sunday as clouds begin to increase. Even Sunday is looking quite nice before showers arrive for the start of next week.
