Summer officially began this evening at 6:34 PM. We hit a summer-like high of 87° in Springfield this afternoon. Although we've been close, we have yet to hit 90 thus far in June.
A cold front will approach western Massachusetts overnight, kicking off a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm. As of 11:30p, this front is kicking off some severe thunderstorm warnings through central and western New York.
The front will weaken as it moves through so we're not expecting any severe weather, however some may get woken up by some thunder. Our window of opportunity for showers and some thunder will be from midnight to 6 AM. Early morning clouds will give way to sunshine and beautiful weather tomorrow. The first full day of summer will start off a bit muggy but will turn less humid as the day goes on.
The rest of the week is looking very comfortable. A fast moving area of low pressure will slide our way for Thursday bringing as scattered showers or perhaps a period of rain. Any rain we can get would be a good thing since we do have pre-drought conditions across western Mass. As of June 1st, our year-to-date rainfall deficit is -4.63", leading to those dry conditions.
After Thursday's chance for rain, we turn to another stretch of dry weather with lots of sunshine expected this weekend.
